Not all websites are consumer oriented. In businesses with internal networks or Intranets, an interenal website can serve many purposes.

The chief benefit is a method of communication from the corporation to its staff. Memos, news, and other corporate information can be posted in a manner that is easily accessible to employees and avoids the requirement of sending out individual memos.

Likewise, items like employee directories, schedules, and event listings can all be made easily accessible and continually updated without the need of additional paperwork.

Since an Intranet website is geared towards employees, it need not be particularly flashy and general usability should be the priority.
